Pirc Defense chess art

Hypermodern and flexible against 1.e4. Black fianchettoes, lets White build, and strikes back with timing.
Kasparov's Immortal / a Pirc Defense
The Pirc Defense
The Pirc Defense, 1.e4 d6 2.d4 Nf6 3.Nc3 g6, applies hypermodern logic to 1.e4: Black declines to contest the center directly, fianchettoes the king's bishop to g7, and waits to counterstrike with ...e5 or ...c5 once White has committed. It is flexible, slightly provocative, and demands precise timing from both sides.
Because Black gives White a free hand early, White can choose a slow buildup or the ferocious Austrian Attack with f4 and a pawn avalanche. Kasparov's Immortal against Topalov in 1999, where a rook sacrifice chased the black king from a4 to d1 across the whole board, sprang from a Pirc.
The Pirc is for the player comfortable inviting pressure to unleash a counterblow. As art it suits the modern defender who plays for the dynamic moment.
The hypermodern defender who waits, then strikes.
